Tired of messing with emulators/looking for that old feeling of gaming?
Then get ready for the ‘Armiga Project’.
What is it exactly? A compact retro console made with a Raspberry Pi and a floppy drive from an Amiga 500.
Unless you have been walking around with a box over your head for nearly the last two years, you will know what a Raspberry Pi is, but for those that don’t here’s a quick explanation.
The Raspberry Pi is a single-board the size of a credit card developed in the UK for educational purposes and to promote the teaching of computer science that has been very successful for its versatility. Many consider it a revolutionary product. The Raspberry Pi uses an ARM processor ARM1176JZF-S, hence the name ARMIGA.
The project is still under development and although some prototypes have already been made, the future of this idea will almost certainly be a crowdfunding campaign. The goal will be to skillfully recreate the game experience of the Amiga 500 in its entirety, respecting even the loading times and other details very important for a real retrogamer. As shown in the image above, it will be a product of small size and easily customizable. It’s early days yet, they do have a prototype and a couple of short videos on YouTube, check the links below.
