Definitively this weekend has been very generous on new Commodore 64 releases. Yesterday we had ‘Megatron’ and today we have the new game ‘MAH’, developed by the CSDb user ‘saimo’.
The game objective is to save the World, and to do so, you have to hack through several firewalls (called bitwalls) using the Peekpoker, a very powerful hacking tool.
The game is very fast, and to accomplish the objectives, you have to move the Peekpoker around the screen towards the points that unlocks the phase. The points you have to hit keep changing positions, which makes it a very challenging task.
The downloadable image contains the game manual, which I recommend you read before trying to play the game, as its rules weren’t very easy to understand when I first tried it. However, after knowing what to do and how to do it, I kept playing the game for more than one hour non-stop.
The Introduction section is another important thing to go through, as it tells you the story behind the game, illustrated with gorgeous graphics.
If you usually don’t care about background story, make an exception and check this one out – you won’t be disappointed.
It is clear that the author took the game development very seriously. If this type of game was developed for today’s modern platforms, I think it would be very successful. Gladly ‘saimo’ has chosen the C64 :)
MAH is for sure one of the best homebrew games for the C64 released this year.
