Mortal Kombat made history as (at the time) the bloodiest and gory fighting game. As the retro scene is always looking for a way to revive or make an homage to the classics using its favorite retro platform, it is not entirely surprising to see Mortal Kombat debuting on the Atari 2600!
The feat was achieved by the Atariage user “Jinroh”. For now, the game is more a tech demo featuring only Raiden. You can punch, uppercut, duck, move left and right. The demo also supports two players. The video below shows the current state of the game:

The game was made on March/2015 and is coded in assembler. Its development was put on hold so the devs could dedicate time to another game, Carrot Kingdom.
Considering the graphics capabilities of the Atari 2600, the fighting animations are excellent. We hope they can get back to it and finish the game. Meanwhile, you can play with the tech demo, following the links below.
