Port and remaster of the classic Atari game to the Mega Drive/Genesis by SirVH
River Raid is the other cartridge I keep coming back to. Carol Shaw built it at Activision in 1982, and she did something on that machine that still doesn’t quite make sense to me: a river that never ends, lol. Yeah and all that ends up making sense with the plane, the fuel, the bridges and the score… and everything under 4kb!
After bringing Pitfall! to the Mega Drive, this was the one I wanted next. Same year, same publisher, same 128 bytes of RAM, and a completely different kind of genius behind it.
AI made it possible for me to do this one and I loved the result! I created 3 ways to play the game and you can pick right on the title screen.
Three editions, one cartridge
- ORIGINAL — the 1:1 port: the original screen layout, the original vertical speed, the original lower border. Nothing moved, nothing added
- ENHANCED — the same game filling the whole Mega Drive screen: 224 lines instead of the Atari’s raster, with real river generated into the space that opens up. Same physics, same collisions, same random number generator
- REMASTER — new 16-bit artwork over that same world, in two themes you switch with Left/Right: DAY (Natural Adventure) and NIGHT (Neon Night Run)
