Saddle up! ROUNDUP is riding onto the ColecoVision
(WIP) In 1981, Bob Whitehead’s Stampede put Atari 2600 owners on horseback, chasing a runaway herd with nothing but a lasso. Roundup brings that game to the ColecoVision, built from the original cartridge’s own rules and redrawn in full ColecoVision color.
Ride up and down across six lanes of cattle and press fire to throw your rope. Jerseys are worth 25, Guernseys 15 and dark red Herefords 3, and a Black Angus is worth 100 if you can rope it before it rears your horse. Ride into a row to herd it forward, steer clear of the skulls on the trail, and don’t let a dogie fall behind: you can afford three strays, plus one more for every 1,000 points.
Highlights:
• Eight levels, from Sidekick to Cattle Baron, with Novice (long rope) and Expert (short rope)
• A herd that picks up speed over about three minutes, just as on the 2600
• Pass 10,000 points and the steer’s-head brand appears
• Speech with a Lundy speech module: “Saddle up and head ’em out!”, your score at the end, and a voice ON/OFF switch
• New title and closing artwork, and an attract mode that rides on its own
• Runs on the ColecoVision and the Coleco ADAM
