Nic Brine over at www.thefuturewas8bit.co.uk kindly sent us over an sd2iec unit to play with, so I thought what better way than to make a post about it on Commodore is Awesome.
It came (rather quickly I might add) in a well protected box with a nice big ‘Fragile’ sticker on it. Inside the box the actual unit was in an anti-static bag which was also bubble wrapped for safety, a nice touch, postmen can be very careless and heavy handed these days.
After removing all the packaging I must say that the unit itself is extremely well made and resembles a mini Commodore 64 disk drive! Very cool indeed :)
Also included are full in depth instructions to get you started, there’s also a quick start guide too if you want to just get straight into playing games. Following the guide I got this up and running in a matter of minutes and the hardware performed perfectly first time with no issues at all. I also received an SD Card too! These are usually a couple pounds extra which you can add to your order when checking out.
Nic’s website offers variants and different colours of this device catering for most Commodore 8bit computers. Check his shop section for more information on this. Also the website has a SD2IEC Info page, and along with the instructions you get with the hardware, you would be hard pushed to ever get confused when using this neat little device. Overall I would highly recommend the sd2iec for a quick, simple and very ‘easy to use’ solution for playing Commodore game files on your Commodore computer, yes there is other hardware out there that will work in similar ways but this will do the same thing (and more) at a fraction of the price.
When I get more time (and had a good play and read) I will do a more in depth review on the sd2iec. Thank you Nic for a great device, I’m off to play Platoon now :)
