Well it seems we are spoilt for choice when it comes to upcoming ZX Spectrum Homebrew games. Currently I am still playing through Monty’s Honey Run and I’m very much looking forward to the sequel, “Monty and the Temple of Lost Souls“. This post is kinda related to those two games, as it’s the next Homebrew title I would like to talk about today that uses the AGD (Arcade Game Designer) engine for creation. “Foggys Quest” by John Blythe (The Darkness of Raven Wood) is another cute and very polished looking platformer. Currently the game is in early stages, but there has been a lot of friendly chat and screenshots shared on the AGD Facebook page, and it’s looking to be a mighty fine Spectrum game.
Foggy is a creature from another dimension. A dimension hopping tourist. One fateful trip he arrives in the land of the NARGs. They immediately drag him off his ship and dismantle its 3 power crystals. They leave poor Foggy in a cave :( His mission is to find the missing crystals and find his ship and dimension jump out of there! The game is a platform adventure. You’ll find items around the place and have to work out where to use them. There are ‘Object Pads’ scattered around and this is where you can ‘use’ the items you find. John tells us so far 17 rooms have been created. However AGD is not without it’s limits (Memory is tight) but we expect a few more rooms added as the game creation progresses. As you can see from the screenshots & teaser video, the character animation is super smooth, attention to detail on each room is fantastic and the colour scheme works really well, giving a very nice overall appearance. Another awesome AGD game we will be keeping a close on eye on. Stay tuned for more updates! :)
