How to build a Commodore 64 Power Supply by yourself

Jan Beta has published a DIY video showing how to build a C64 Power supply by using a 9V transformer and a pre-made 5V power brick and putting it into a nice case.

Although the project works, the author advises that only people that are experienced with that type of work should attempt to build something similar, but nonetheless, it is a very interesting video.

For those looking for a “off-the-shelf” Commodore 64 power supply replacement, a best bet is to check Ray Carlsen website, for example.

  1. FWIW Electronic Goldmine has a 9v 3a AC power supply, made by GE for alarm systems, for $3.95. Not a bare transformer but a plug-in unit with screw terminals for output. Add a 5 V 2 A wall wart and a C64 connector and you’re in business. They have a $10 minimum order. Just a satisfied customer.
