Apple Core has received a new module for testing proper functioning of all new opcodes and addressing modes of a 65C02 CPU.
The ideas behind Apple Core are:
To facilitate emulator development and give the developers a test tool of their implemented CPU model. There is active development work going on currently where Apple Core could prove its benefits by helping debugging the proper funciioning of implemented opcodes.
To give the enthusiasts at home a possibility to test their systems. Nowadays old systems show more and more instabilities often related to PSU problems or RAM errors. However, it was shown that also CPUs tend to fail over time.Even single opcodes can fail under certain conditions. And we already lerned that everything is possible. So if your Apple behaves unstable or unexpected in certain situations and RAM or the PSU is not an issue you might give a CPU test a try.
Apple Core is maybe the first comprehensive CPU test for all opcodes and addressing modes for the 6502 and 65C02 CPU available on the Apple II.
