Styx is a remake of the Matthew Smith game, originally released by Bug Byte on the ZX Spectrum in 1983.
INSTRUCTIONS
Armed with your laser gun, you must battle your way across the river Styx towards Hades.
The game is in three phases. In the first phase you must make your
way through the spider-filled maze and dive into the river Styx. In the
river stage you come up against deadly piranhas which seem none too keen
on letting you cross to the other side. Having dragged yourself out on
the far beach, you find yourself fighting your way through the Infernal
Regions, past the Spirits of the Dead, towards an encounter with the
Dark One himself.
To escape the first phase, you must reach the door at the bottom
right and close it by moving up against it. You will then be allowed to
enter the river. If you destroy the mother spider at the top right, your
laser will be recharged – this becomes more necessary on the later
screens. Escape from the river is only possible at the beaching point at
the bottom left. Becoming entangled in the weeds elsewhere is deadly.
To exit the final stage, attack the shrouded figure, but beware its
outstretched hand.
