Eagle-eyed forumites over at CPCWiki have spotted early signs that a conversion of TAD Corporation’s Toki could be set to receive a conversion to the Amstrad CPC.
AmstradGPP, a duo of French developers, recently uploaded a series of images to their Twitter account to showcase progress that they have made on the game. According to the post, despite being amateur coders, they hope to create a conversion of the classic arcade title to the CPC. Work is apparently well under way, with artwork and assets already finalised, as well as progress made made on the programming and sound design.
The pair stress that this is a hobbyist project and that the release is unlikely to make full use of the available hardware, but they hope to incorporate as much as possible into the final version, picking up new tricks and techniques along the way.
While there’s no gameplay footage available at the current time, the images uploaded to the AmstradGGP Twitter account certainly look intriguing. Despite being somewhat blurry, we can clearly see that the conversion looks very close to the arcade – certainly for what can be expected for an 8-bit release – taking advantage of the CPC’s vibrant colour palette.
Naturally, we’ll post more regarding this project as and when new information becomes available.
