Remake of Krush, Kill ‘n’ Destroy in development

Fans of Beam Software’s Mad Max-styled real-time strategy games Krush, Kill ‘n’ Destroy and KKnD 2: Krossfire might be interested to check out the latest progress update of this impressive-looking remake.

Released back in 1997 and 1998, the original games focused on the conflict between the militaristic “Survivors” and irradiated mutants known as “The Evolved” in a bitter fight over the world’s remaining oil supplies, set against the backdrop of a future-Earth ravaged by nuclear war – if you harboured a dream of commanding an army of 50-feet tall crabs armed with missile launchers, this was the game for you!

Developed by Andre Mohren, Martin Lang and Paweł Dzierżanowski, the KKnD remake project is not exactly new, having been originally conceived back in 2011, but the team recently released a detailed video showcasing many of the new developments improvements they’ve been working on.

At the heart of the remake is OpenRA, an open source game engine developed as a means for modern computers/operating systems to play Westwood Studio’s classic 2D Command & Conquer series – be sure to check this out if you haven’t already!

Changes coming in the free remake include new buildings, defensive walls, tweaks to gameplay mechanics and unit balance, improved artwork, and much more. However, a classic mode will also be included for those who prefer the feel of the original 1997 release.

And while you’ll be able to enjoy online multiplayer and skirmish battles against the AI without the original game, you will need to own the GoG releases if you wish to experience the single-player campaign, original music and cinematic cut-scenes.

As to when the remake will be launched is still undecided, although the team is looking tentatively at a late 2018/early 2019 alpha release. However, the team is looking to make contact with “professional” RTS players to help balance and polish the game, and is considering making the closed alpha version available to a select player-base in the run-up to a more general release.
