Megastyle are pleased to announce the impending physical release of Exploding Fish for the Commodore 64. The limited cassette edition is scheduled to be available for order from their new web store on Saturday November 17 at 10am (UTC).
Originally made available as a digital release back in June, Exploding Fish sees you take control of Diver Dougal who has to dive deep, collecting encryption keys scattered across the ocean floor in order to access and defuse bombs dropped onto the protected reefs by the evil Doctor Drax. But watch out for seal life creatures that do not appreciate unwanted visitors to their home sea environment.
Exploding Fish provides some enjoyable early 80s arcade style game play that requires a degree of patience and timing to get through each of the 10 levels. When we originally reviewed the game back in June, we found it a joy to play and appreciated the overall presentation on offer.
Programming, level design and graphics for Exploding Fish were done by Chris Stanley, his first attempt at developing a game for the Commodore 64. In speaking to him about how he felt his game had been received, Stanley was enthusiastic in saying:
…the game has been received very well and the comments I’ve had so far were overwhelmingly positive. Having said that I’m always receptive to constructive criticism and try to take it on board for future projects.
Seeing your hard work come to fruition in the form of a physical release is a proud moment for any developer. We asked Chris how he felt about the upcoming big moment, he replied:
Well it’s been a long time coming but holding that first finished tape in my hands was a very proud moment! I’ve been a C64 obsessive since my early teens and I never would have thought I’d see one of my own games released so yeah, I’m a very happy man!
To get your physical copy of Exploding Fish for only £7.99 (including world-side shipping), be sure to follow Chris Stanley on his Twitter feed, where he will provide a link to the Megastyle web store as soon as it is open for business. Alternatively, you can download a digital copy of the game from the Megastyle Itch.Io page for a small donation.
