I just finished watching Bandersnatch on Netflix and enjoyed it a lot! If you are a fan of visual novel games you will also enjoy the Black Mirror latest episode, which gives the watcher the power to decide how the movie will proceed and ends.
In a nutshell (no spoilers) the main character is a young game programmer and the background plot shows his work developing the Bandersnatch game, in the best “From Bedroom to Billions” style.
At the very end of the episode credits, the main character plays on his Walkman a sound that is very known of any retro gamer or computer enthusiast that has used tape storage before.
When loading the wave file (which can be found here) in a ZX Spectrum or emulator, a QR Code is presented on screen. The QR Code has encoded the Tuckersoft, the fictional game development company featured in the show. There you can find the complete line up of games and their cassette covers, include
Another game shown during the episode is Nohzdyve, another reference to another episode of Black Mirror, Nosedive (the one where a woman is dominated by society’s emphasis on constant rating and approval). The game actually was developed for the ZX Spectrum and is available for download over Tuckersoft website :)
You can watch the gameplay over Vintage is The New Old YouTube channel as well.
The movie has way more easter eggs, mostly referring to other Black Mirror’s episodes. You can find more about them all around the Internet!
