Over the past several months, work has been going on behind the scenes in a big way with a complete update of the GBBS Pro Website. Spearheding this effort has been none other than Paul H. Lee. Yes, that Paul Lee, the programmer who brought you GBBS Pro version 2.4 as well as the latest updates and efforts in the Warp6 BBBS realm.
After many dozens of man hours, that new home for GBBS Pro has been realized and the effect is absolutely stunning.
Originally released in the early 1980’s by Greg Schaffer, the GBBS platform has gone through a number of versions and iterations. With the work that has come over the past several years and the release of the official manuals for the package reaching new heights, it was figured by the team that a new website was also in order.
Some of the interesting things about the new website is that it brings users back to the 1980’s green screen Apple II realm with some very cool bells and whistles. Connect to the website by clicking the Power Button as well as jump to the other BBS’s and connect directly from the GBBS Applearchives site.
Once you select the BBS you wish to connect to, the site will connect with the standard GBBS Pro efficiency and style. Unlike many systems these days, all of your data is actually secure with the communication happening directly with that site.
A special search section for the program, modules and other related materials has also been updated. This section is currently being filled in with more mods coming forth every day.
In addition to this complete update to the site has been the release of materials that have not been available since the late 198’s. This includes the GBBS Pro Newsletter from L&L Production as well as a number of mods and system versions that had long disappeared from the Apple II computing realm.
Thanks to the release of GBBS Pro under the GPL 3.0 by copyright owner Kevin M. Smallwood as well as full support from the Apple Pugetsound Program Library Exchange Users Group, GBBS Pro will live on for a long time to come. Also the GBBS team including Henry Pedro, have been instrumental in process of both testing and making sure that things function as they should.
