Famed producer of Computer Chronicles, Stewart Cheifet, passes away.

The famed producer of the PBS television programs Computer Chronicles and Net Cafe, Stewart Cheifet, has passed away on 28 December 2025. The 87 year old Stewart most famously was known for highlighting the growing personal computer realm in the 1980’s with his relaxed professional style, along side other luminaries in the computer field including George Morrow, Gary Kidall and even Bill Gates and a host of others. He also had worked professionally at both PBS and ABC and taught journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Computer Chronicles aired on PBS from 1984 through 2002, a total of 433 episodes and basically saw the computer industry grow from the personal computer through the early years of the World Wide Web and the Dot Com boom and bust. The program was the most popular computer related program on television and highlighted both the personal realm and the professional business realm.

His second show, Net Cafe also broadcast on PBS, ran from 1996 to 2002 and covered topics more directly related to the Internet.
