Custom Sega Master System With Built-In Game Gear Cart Slot

2329-custom-master-system-with-game-gear-slotWhile the Super Nintendo may have had an excellent Game Boy adapter to play the pocket-sized classics on the big screen, Sega never released an equivalent for their colourful Game Gear handheld. With a hefty amount of solder and a custom built board, one retro gamer has made his very own 2-in-1 Master System with a Game Gear cartridge slot at the ready.

The result, as you’d expect, is what just about every Sega gamer has longed for over the years – the ability to play our favourite Game Gear titles using the Master System control pad. This amazing modification has been made possible by splicing a Game Gear into the inside of the Master System, all while adding a GGTV (TV-Out) adapter into the mix and then ensuring the control pads communicate with both systems.

Its creator Eric Bishop has not only impressed us with the feat itself, but also by making sure the little things haven’t been missed. Knowing full well the Game Gear has a start button, unlike its 8-bit home console counterpart, Bishop has added a new button onto the Master System control pad to accommodate this difference.

If the aesthetics of the console’s new cartridge port or the difficulty behind this modification haven’t impressed you yet, be sure to check out the hybrid console in action below.
