Atari 'Star Raiders' Source Code Available on Internet Archive

starraiders

Star Raiders is one of the most pleased games released for the Atari 8-bit machines. Created by Doug Neubauer, it was released in cartridge form by Atari in 1979.

It was big news last week (yeah, I know, I am late) that Kevin Savetz had received the full source code listing of Star Raiders, and he was about to scan it all and upload to Internet Archive.

Of course, a retro-gem like that would grab a lot of attention and it wouldn’t be possible to keep it as a simple listing to be read. People should be able to build the game from the source themselves, so a group has started a task to basically retype the game, page by page a make it available on Github. The project is in advanced stages with around 70 pages already turned into source-code, with about 40 to go.

Hopefully, after the full source-code is available, someone will also come up with instructions to build the game, and all the Atarimanics will have plenty of Star Raiders versions to play with.
