Game ‘Fire Breath’ for Commodore 64 released after 26 years in the attic

Once upon a time, young(er) Erik Hooijmeijer sent his new game to a publisher but he didn’t get any answer, only his disk back. For the lack of explanation, he just assumed the game was no good and gave up. After unburying his C64 after all these years, he found the once-rejected game and decided it was finally time to show it off for the rest of us.

‘Fire Breath’ is now available for download on the author’s blog “ctrl-alt-Development”. I am no expert but, after downloading it and playing for a while, I can say the publisher was wrong. The game is well made and fun. There are some control problems, but nothing that couldn’t be tweaked with little effort.

Fire Breath is a game about a fire breathing worm called ‘Dozo’. He ate too much chillies, and jumped into the well to cool his tongue and now has to find its way above ground again.

Dozo cannot swim, so he must avoid water and the underground is populated with increasingly strange creatures that are deadly to the touch. Fortunately he has his fiery breath and various power-ups are lying around. To proceed to the next level all creatures need to be eliminated.

Can you guide Dozo back to the surface?

You can judge by yourself downloading it from Erik’s blog following the link below.
