Wow it’s been a long time since I spoke to Andy Johns, I just happened to have a quick browse over my Facebook, nothing too interesting going on until I got a DM from Andy with some fantastic News which I’ll get to in a second. You might be thinking to yourself, who is Andy Johns? Most Speccy die-hards will most certainly know Andy from such epic game releases such as Monty’s Honey Run, Monty and the Temple of Lost Souls and Ooze.
However they are not the only Speccy games he created, do you remember a certain Glade Sprite by the name of Nixy? Yep that’s right, Andy was responsible for Nixy the Glade Sprite and also Nixy and the Seeds of Doom, the much awaited Speccy sequel. So what’s he been up to since then? Here comes the good part, are you ready? Along with some friends, they have been creating a new Commodore 64 version of Nixy the Glade Sprite! So it looks like all you C64 fans will be playing Nixy on your breadbins very soon!
Andy kindly sent me over a near complete version today, and I must say it’s looking beautiful! I instantly fell in love with Nixy on the ZX Spectrum back in 2018 and the Commodore version doesn’t disappoint. Beautiful scenery, a really nice scrolling system, a colourful Nixy sprite and the music sounds great through the mighty Commodore sid chip. We will of course do a proper review when we have our hands on the final release, but for now, here’s a little teaser post to wet your appetite.
Code by Anthony Savva
Art and Concept by Andy Johns
Music and SFX by Kamil Wolnikowski
The game will be available as a digital download and also on C64 cartridge. Stay tuned!
