New MSX game ‘Myths and Dragons’ to be released in July as physical copy

The excellent MSX Resource Centre website brought to my attention this new game that will be released in July by Kai Magazine. Myths and Dragons is a fantasy-themed beat ’em up game that also has some RPG elements. This nice addition gives the game more to look for since the players can gain experience and money that will let them upgrade equipment as the advance the game.

The game can be pre-ordered now for 39 Euro (US$43) + shipping. After the game is released, the price will go up to 42 Euro (US$49) + shipping. If you are on a budget and can’t afford the cartridge, you can still buy it as a digital download for 9 Euros during pre-order, and 12 Euro afterward.

Myths and Dragons will run in any MSX2 with 64k of RAM, V9990 (or compatible) video chip, MSX-Music, MSX-Audio or OPL4 sound support. It also contains specific optimizations for MSX2+ and Turbo R machines.

While watching the gameplay video (below), I couldn’t help but remember those awesome beat’em up arcade games from my childhood. The fact that the video shows an actual CRT playing the game might’ve help :)!

I couldn’t find the pre-order page on the Kai Magazine shop, so if you are interested, it’s recommended to check the forum thread where all the relevant information is available.
