Nintendo has announced that their Nintendo Switch Online service will be launching in September, with the key feature of providing access to a library of NES games adapted to the Nintendo Switch with online compatibility and voice chat, via an official smartphone app.

Nintendo has stated that 20 classic NES titles will be available at launch, with the following 10 games confirmed:

  • Balloon Fight
  • Donkey Kong
  • Dr. Mario
  • Ice Climber
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Mario Bros.
  • Soccer
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Tennis

Nintendo Switch Online will be a paid subscription service with monthly plans at $3.99USD, while 12 month membership will be $19.99USD or $34.99USD for a family membership

In addition to providing access to classic NES games, the Nintendo Switch Online service will also allow current generation Switch games (Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, Mario Tennis, etc) to be played online, which will cease to be free after September, and store save states on the cloud.

Unfortunately, Nintendo continues to be silent about the prospects of adding a Virtual Console store for the Switch.
